Refund Status

Track the status of your federal and state tax refunds.

Check Your Federal Refund

Use the official IRS “Where's My Refund?” tool to check the status of your federal tax refund. You will need your Social Security Number (or ITIN), filing status, and the exact refund amount shown on your return.

You can check the status of your refund within 24 hours after the IRS receives your e-filed return, or about 4 weeks after mailing a paper return.

Typical Federal Refund Timeline

E-Filed Returns

Refunds are typically issued within 21 days of the IRS accepting your e-filed return.

Paper-Filed Returns

Paper returns may take 6 to 8 weeks to process. Refund status is available about 4 weeks after mailing.

Amended Returns

Amended returns (Form 1040-X) can take up to 16 weeks to process. Use the IRS “Where's My Amended Return?” tool to track these separately.
